How Do I Change My Mindset?

Here’s a different way of thinking about changing your mindset…

Start with changing the way you feel.

To me, a shift in mindset is about opening the mind to new ways of thinking.

New perspectives you didn’t consider before.

Ways of seeing that challenge a more limited view you didn’t even realize was a limited view until you experienced a shift in your mindset.

But this is where people often get stuck.

They experience a new way of seeing the world, but the way they feel remains the same.

Sometimes the shift in their mindset actually stirs up unconscious patterns that would have otherwise remained dormant if their thinking wasn’t challenged in the first place.

I see this when I’m working with clients who want to move toward what they would consider to be the “next level” in their business or their career.

They realize the opportunity comes with more responsibility, more visibility, or a greater chance for things to go wrong.

And suddenly they are confronted with beliefs and uncomfortable feelings about themselves, or the world, that they rarely, if ever, had to deal with previously.

They’re able to see things differently than they were able to before, but these old beliefs and feelings are still running the show.

And when a new way of thinking about things has to contend with what someone already feels deep down inside, it’s usually more comfortable to stay put than to push through.

This is why shifting the way you feel, not just the way you think, can be the difference between a mindset shift that sticks and one that recedes back to old, familiar ways of viewing the world.
